Beef Industry Leaders and Allies:
You may have heard of the National Beef Ambassador Program, an organization that strives to provide an opportunity for youth leaders to educate consumers and students about beef nutrition, food safety and stewardship practices in the beef industry. Through educational workshops, promotional booths and online social networking, beef ambassadors reach millions of people each year.
In the state of South Dakota, we are in a transition phase with our program, which has developed a winning tradition on the national level. In the past, various cattle women organizations have coordinated this project; however, the South Dakota Beef Industry Council is now taking the reins and looking for your support.
Tentatively, the South Dakota State Beef Ambassador Contest will be held in conjunction with the South Dakota Summer Spotlight in Huron, S.D., date and time to be announced. The contest consists of four areas of competition that are simulated during the state competition to allow judges to see the potential ambassador at work. They are: (Media Interview, Classroom Presentation, Issues Response to newspaper or online article, & Consumer booth promotion).
We believe in uniting with other agriculture organizations, and we hope to begin developing relationships with your organization through this program. We are seeking a variety of things: assistance in running the state contest, monetary support, and/or suggestions of young people who might be interested in competing. We feel this is one of the premier youth organizations in the state, and we are inviting you to be a part of it.
If you are interested in assisting with this program, please contact me for additional information. We would love to team up with the outstanding agriculture organizations around the state to make this program a rewarding experience for our youth in agriculture. Thank you for your consideration.
